BEHIND THE IRAN HEADLINES Series, May 24, 2021
Alireza Jafarzadeh, NCRI-US Deputy Director: Over the weekend, the official website of the Iranian regime’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, published a congratulatory message by Ziyad al-Nakhalah, secretary general of the Islamic Jihad, addressed to Khamenei describing him as the “leader of revolution”.
In his message regarding the recent conflict in Gaza and the rockets used and praising the regime, Nakhalah told Khamenei that: The friends and brothers of the Martyr Soleimani, particularly Haj Esmaeel Ghaani, the Qods Force commander, and his colleagues were at our side, minute by minute leading and commanding this battle.”
Showcasing Nakhalah’s letter so prominently on his website, clearly shows Khamenei’s desperate show of power by admitting his role in the conflict and killings, in the face of a grueling election period.
He had previously acknowledged that if his regime stops warmongering beyond Iran’s borders, then he will have to fight the rising Iranian people and the rebellious youth in towns and cities across Iran.
Khamenei for now, confident of Europe and U.S.’s inaction, is escalating its regime’s malign activities, wishfully believing this way his regime will be safe form further people’s revolts at home. But he is badly mistaken. His regime is buckling under enormous weight of protests, ferocious factional infighting, and the army of the hungry, who despite the COVID-19, are focused on only one thing, A FREE IRAN.
