BEHIND THE IRAN HEADLINES Series, May 2, 2024, Alireza Jafarzadeh, NCRI-US Deputy Director
Last week, the criminal theocratic regime ruling Iran continued its relentless campaign of executions in a desperate bid to quell dissent and stifle opposition.
In the past fortnight alone, the theocracy took the lives of at least 37 prisoners across various cities.
Urgent intervention is imperative to halt the relentless cycle of torture and execution that threatens the lives of thousands languishing on death row.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), has stated: “The UN, the Human Rights Council, and the Special Rapporteur on Iran must take urgent action to save the lives of political prisoners Reza Rasaei and Habib Deris, who face imminent execution. The Iranian regime’s Judiciary must also withdraw the fake and cunning execution verdict against the popular rapper Toomaj Salehi.”
In response to this tyranny, the Iranian people and their organized Resistance are targeting the regime’s and IRGC’s centers of terror and suppression. They are driven by an unwavering determination to overthrow the shackles of oppression and reclaim their long-denied freedom.
For far too long, the regime’s officials have evaded accountability for their crimes against humanity and acts of genocide spanning four decades. Their continued impunity serves as a chilling endorsement of further bloodshed and lawlessness.
The Iranian Resistance once again calls for immediate action to stop the torture and execution and save the lives of thousands of prisoners on death row. Khamenei, Raisi, and Ejehi, perpetrators of crimes against humanity and genocide in the past 45 years, must be brought to justice. Their impunity is a green light for the continuation of slaughter and crime.
