The Iranian regime’s military strike using missiles and drones last week is undoubtedly a turning point, as the necessity for a coherent policy toward Tehran is felt across the Middle East and on both sides of the Atlantic.

House Resolution 1148, introduced on April 16th by Congressman Randy Weber with 143 original bipartisan cosponsors, provides the necessary components of an effective Iran policy.

H.Res.1148 “calls for holding the Iranian regime accountable for its actions through the continued imposition of sanctions and to support the Iranian Resistance’s Ten-Point Plan for the Future of Iran,” introduced in 2006 by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, NCRI’s President-elect, for the transitional period to transfer sovereignty to the people of Iran.

The resolution notes that “over 3,600 parliamentarians around the world and 125 former world leaders have expressed support for Mrs. Rajavi’s plan.”

The resolution also recognizes “the rights of the Iranian people, the protesters, and the Resistance Units to confront the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and repressive forces to bring about change.”

The House initiative highlights the Iranian regime’s continued plots against the members of the Iranian Resistance and rejects the sham trials in absentia of some 104 veteran members of the Iranian Resistance to create a phony legal precedent against them. The Resolution calls on the United States Government “to ensure the full protection of the Iranian political refugees in Ashraf 3 in Albania against the Iranian regime’s plots.”

H.Res.1148 “recognizes the rights of the Iranian people and their struggle to establish a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran.”

At a bipartisan House briefing on this resolution, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi addressed the Members of Congress, saying, “Now is the right moment for the solution outlined in your resolution to be implemented as the official policy of the U.S. and Europe towards Iran.”

Indeed, it is high time for Western and Middle Eastern capitals to heed her words.
